CALL FOR ABSTRACT: Community-Based Learning for an Ageing World

Intergenerational & Inclusive Practices for a Humanities of Care

Juanjuan “June” He and Catherine Quay

As the world’s population ages, educational institutions are being called to reimagine their social role, not only in preparing younger generations, but in fostering belonging, inclusion, and health across all ages. This edited volume explores Community-Based Learning (CBL) as a powerful and underutilized strategy for strengthening intergenerational connections and building age-friendly learning environments.

Rooted in global and interdisciplinary perspectives, Community-Based Learning for an Ageing World brings together voices from education, design, public health, the humanities, and social care to explore how CBL can support civic engagement, reduce social isolation, and create spaces of shared learning and meaning-making. By linking intergenerational pedagogy with the emerging field of Global Health Humanities, the volume seeks to establish a new framework for understanding community, care, and aging as interdependent dimensions of human well-being.
